How the Chess Club Pairing Generator works
- Enter players with current scores and the pairings already played.
- Choose a system — Swiss suits a club where players drop in, round robin suits a fixed small group.
- Check the colour balance and the bye. A player who has had white three times running notices, and so does one who gets a second bye.
FAQ
How does Swiss pairing work?
Players with similar scores are paired, avoiding repeats and balancing colours. It lets a large field play a few rounds and still produce a meaningful ranking, which round robin cannot do without many more games.
Who gets the bye?
Conventionally the lowest-scoring player who has not already had one, and a bye normally scores as a win or half point depending on the club's rule. Giving the same player two byes is the error to avoid.
Does colour balance matter at club level?
More than beginners expect. White has a small but real advantage, and a player given white three times running while another has black three times is a fairness problem regardless of level.
