How it works
- Optionally adjust the focus, short break, and long break durations, and how many focus sessions happen before a long break.
- Click Start to begin the countdown — the tab title updates too, so you can track progress from another tab.
- When a session ends, a chime plays and it automatically lines up the next session — click Start again when you're ready.
- Use Skip to jump ahead, or Reset to start the whole cycle over.
This follows the classic Pomodoro Technique: alternate focused work with short breaks, and take a longer break after a set number of focus sessions — by default, 25 minutes of focus, a 5-minute short break, and a 15-minute long break every 4 sessions.
FAQ
Does the timer still run if I close this tab or put my laptop to sleep?
No — it needs the tab open (in the background is fine) and your device awake, the same as any browser-based tool. Closing the tab or letting your laptop sleep stops the page's JavaScript, which is what's tracking time.
Why do I have to click Start instead of the timer running automatically?
Browsers block audio from playing until you've interacted with the page, so clicking Start is what unlocks the chime for later — the countdown itself only begins once you click it too.
Can I change the durations partway through a session?
The duration fields lock once you click Start, so a running session can't drift out of sync with its countdown. Click Reset to unlock them and start over with new durations.
What's the difference between Reset and Skip?
Reset stops everything and returns you to the first focus session from zero. Skip ends only the current session immediately and moves on to the next one in the cycle — your session count keeps going.
Is any of this sent anywhere?
No. The countdown and chime run locally using your browser's built-in timer and Web Audio APIs — nothing about your sessions is uploaded or logged.
