How it works
- Enter the date notice was given and the length of the notice period, in days, weeks, or calendar months.
- The calculator adds that period to your start date to find the last working day.
- It also counts the calendar days and the Monday–Friday business days that fall within the notice window.
The calculation
Calendar-month notice periods add whole months (so the last working day lands on the same day-of-month as the start date, shifted forward), while day and week notice periods add a fixed number of calendar days — the two can differ by a day or two depending on month length, which is why the tool always shows the exact resulting date rather than an approximation.
FAQ
Is the last working day counted as part of the notice period?
Yes — the last working day is the date you arrive at after adding the full notice period to your start date, and it's included as a working day itself unless your employer specifies otherwise.
Why does it show both calendar days and business days?
A "4-week notice period" is a fixed calendar-day span (28 days) regardless of weekends, but many people also want to know how many actual working days that spans — which is usually meaningfully fewer, since it excludes Saturdays and Sundays.
Does this account for public holidays?
No — the business-day count only excludes Saturdays and Sundays, not public holidays, since those vary by country and region. Subtract any holidays that fall in your notice window manually if you need an exact working-day count.
Is the day notice was given counted as day one?
No — the start date is the day notice was given, and the calculator adds the full notice period on top of it to land on the last working day, so the start date itself isn't counted as elapsed notice.
