How it works
- Pick a board size - Beginner, Intermediate, Expert, or Custom - from the dropdown above the board.
- Left click (or tap) a cell to reveal it. A number shows how many mines touch that cell; a blank cell means none do, and reveals its neighbors automatically.
- Right click (or long-press) a cell you suspect hides a mine to cycle it through a flag, then a question mark, then back to hidden.
- Once a revealed number has exactly that many flagged neighbors, middle-click or double-click it to chord - reveal every other neighbor at once.
- Clear every cell that isn't a mine to win. Your fastest time for Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert is saved locally and shown next to the board size.
- Untick "❓ marks" to skip the question-mark step and cycle straight between flag and hidden, or click ⛶ next to the timer to play in full screen.
- Start a fresh board anytime by clicking the face button, pressing F2, or - once you've won or lost - the "Restart" button that appears next to the result message.

FAQ
What are the board sizes?
Beginner is 9×9 with 10 mines, Intermediate is 16×16 with 40 mines, and Expert is 30×16 with 99 mines - the same three sizes as the classic Windows Minesweeper. A Custom option lets you set your own rows (9-24), columns (9-30), and mine count.
Can my first click ever hit a mine?
No. Mines are placed only after your first click, avoiding that cell and its immediate neighbors, so the opening move always reveals a safe patch of the board rather than instantly ending the game. This holds for custom boards too - the mine cap is calculated so a safe first click is always possible.
What do the numbers on revealed cells mean?
Each number is the count of mines hiding in the up-to-eight cells touching it (including diagonals). A blank revealed cell means zero adjacent mines, which is why revealing one often clears a whole open area at once.
How do I flag a suspected mine, or chord to clear neighbors fast?
Right-click a hidden cell (or press and hold on a touchscreen) to cycle it through flag 🚩, then question mark ❓, then back to hidden - flagged cells can't be revealed by accident, while a question mark is just a visual reminder. Once a revealed number has exactly that many flagged neighbors, middle-click or double-click it to chord - reveal every other neighbor in one move, just like classic Windows Minesweeper.
Can I turn off the question mark, or play in full screen?
Yes to both. Untick the "❓ marks" checkbox above the board to make right-click (or long-press) cycle straight between flag and hidden, skipping the question mark - the same optional behavior classic Windows Minesweeper's Options menu offered. The ⛶ button next to the timer opens the board in full screen on browsers that support it, useful for a distraction-free Expert game.
Does it remember my best time?
Yes, for Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert - your fastest win for each is saved locally in your browser (never uploaded) and shown next to the board size. Custom boards aren't comparable to each other, so best times aren't tracked for them.
Does switching board size or refreshing keep my progress?
No - changing the difficulty or reloading the page starts a fresh board. Nothing about an in-progress game is saved or sent anywhere; only your best times persist, locally, between visits.
Do I need to download anything to play?
No - it plays directly in this page. There is nothing to install, no plugin, and no account to create; it works the same in any modern desktop or mobile browser.
Can I play Minesweeper on my phone or tablet?
Yes. Tap a hidden cell to reveal it, and press-and-hold a cell to cycle it through flag and question mark, the touchscreen equivalent of right-click. The board and controls resize to fit the screen you're on.
