The method
A strike is 10 plus the next two rolls; a spare is 10 plus the next roll; an open frame is the pins from its two rolls. The tenth frame includes its earned fill balls.

FAQ
Why is a perfect game 300?
A strike scores ten plus the next two rolls. Twelve consecutive strikes make each of the ten frames worth 30, for a total of 300.
How does the tenth frame work?
A strike or spare in the tenth earns extra rolls within that frame. A strike earns two bonus rolls; a spare earns one.
Why is a frame total temporarily blank?
Strike and spare bonuses depend on later rolls. The calculator waits until those rolls are entered before showing that frame score.
