Cut list
A 42-minute recording with 137 silent stretches over 0.5 seconds, totalling 6 minutes 20 seconds. Cutting them all leaves 35:40 and a noticeably faster pace.
How the Video Silence Auto-Cutter works
- Load the video and set a threshold slightly above the room's noise floor.
- Set the minimum silence duration — 0.5 seconds removes dead air while leaving natural pauses.
- Add padding either side of each cut, because cutting tight to the waveform clips breath and the first consonant of the next word.
FAQ
What threshold should I use?
Just above the room tone. Too low and nothing is detected; too high and quiet speech is cut as silence. Check the level during a genuinely silent passage first.
Why does the result sound choppy?
Usually no padding. Cutting exactly where the waveform drops removes the breath before a word and the tail of the one before, which the ear hears as clipped. 100 ms either side fixes most of it.
Should every pause go?
No. Removing all of them produces a relentless delivery with nowhere to breathe. Pauses before an important point are doing work — cut the dead air, keep the beats.
