What the result looks like
After you stop, a WebM video preview appears here with a button to download the recording. Recording cannot start as an automatic sample because browsers require you to choose a source and grant permission.
How to record your screen
- Optionally tick Record my microphone, then pick a countdown and video quality.
- Select Start recording, then choose the screen, window, or browser tab to share. After the countdown, recording begins.
- Perform the actions you want to capture. Use Pause and Resume as needed; use Stop recording, your browser's sharing control, or this page to finish.
- Preview the finished recording and download the WebM video to your device.
The browser's getDisplayMedia API supplies the screen stream after you grant permission. MediaRecorder encodes that stream into timed WebM chunks; when recording stops, the chunks are combined into a local Blob and shown through a temporary object URL for preview and download. No recording can be prefilled or started on load because browser security requires a user gesture and source selection.
FAQ
Is my screen recording uploaded anywhere?
No. Capture, encoding, preview, and download all happen locally in your browser. The recording is not sent to Online Tool Store or another server.
Which browsers support screen recording?
Current desktop versions of Chrome, Edge, and Firefox generally support it. Screen capture requires a secure HTTPS page or localhost and may be restricted on some mobile browsers.
Why is there no sound in my recording?
Screen or tab audio depends on your browser, operating system, and the source you choose. A browser tab may offer audio while a window or full screen may not. To add your own voice regardless, tick Record my microphone.
Can I narrate with my microphone?
Yes. Tick Record my microphone and allow access when the browser asks. If the screen or tab also shares audio, the two are mixed into a single audio track in the recording. Nothing is uploaded either way.
Can I pause and resume a recording?
Yes. Pause stops adding to the recording without ending it, and Resume continues into the same video. The timer shows recorded time only, so paused time is not counted.
What do the countdown and video quality settings do?
The countdown (none, 3, or 5 seconds) runs after you choose what to share and before recording starts, so you can switch to the right window. Video quality sets the target bitrate: High about 8 Mbps, Standard about 4 Mbps, Small file about 1.5 Mbps. Lower quality gives a smaller file; the real size also depends on how much of the screen changes.
Is there a recording time limit?
No fixed limit. However, the recording is held in your browser's memory until you download it, so a very long or high-quality recording can use a lot of memory. For long sessions, use Standard or Small file quality and download regularly.
What video format does the recorder create?
The download is a WebM video. The browser selects the best supported WebM codec, typically VP9 or VP8 with Opus audio when audio is available.
Can it record every app or protected video?
No. Your browser controls which screens, windows, and tabs can be selected. Operating-system restrictions or protected media may block capture or appear black.
