How it works

How the output size is calculated
Each country's photo requirement is published as a physical size — in millimeters or inches. To turn that into a pixel size suitable for printing, it's scaled to 300 dots per inch (DPI), a standard resolution for photo printing:
pixels = (millimeters ÷ 25.4) × 300
Example: the UK's 35 × 45 mm requirement becomes (35 ÷ 25.4) × 300 ≈ 413 px wide by (45 ÷ 25.4) × 300 ≈ 531 px tall. The crop box on screen always matches this same aspect ratio, so what you see while positioning your photo is exactly what gets exported.
FAQ
Does this check that my photo meets the official requirements?
No — it only handles the size and crop, not rules like background color, expression, glasses, or head-position framing. Official passport photo rules vary by country and change over time, so always check your country's current guidance (usually your passport office's website) before submitting.
Where do the size figures come from?
They're the commonly published physical dimensions for each country's passport or ID photo (for example, 35 × 45 mm for the UK). Requirements do get updated occasionally, so treat these as a solid starting point and confirm against your country's current official source before printing or submitting.
What resolution is the downloaded photo?
Each preset is converted to pixels at 300 DPI, a standard print resolution — for example, 35 × 45 mm becomes 413 × 531 px. The exact pixel size for your selected country is shown above the download button.
My photo looks soft in the preview — why?
You'll see a warning if your source photo is lower resolution than the target print size — zooming in on a small photo stretches it further, which softens detail. Start with a higher-resolution photo (ideally from a camera or a recent phone) for a sharper result.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Cropping and resizing both happen locally in your browser using the Canvas API — your photo is never sent to a server, including when you download the result.
