Filament Cost Calculator
Compute the material cost of a 3D print from the filament weight used, spool price and weight, plus optional electricity and failure-rate markup, to price a print accurately.

How the Filament Cost Calculator works
- Enter the print's filament weight (from your slicer) plus your spool's total weight and price to derive a cost-per-gram.
- Add print time and your printer's power draw to estimate electricity cost at your local rate.
- A failure-rate markup buffers for the occasional failed print, and a profit margin computes a suggested selling price if you're pricing prints for others.
FAQ
How do I find the print weight and time?
Most slicer software (Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio) shows estimated filament weight in grams and print time in the preview before you start a print — plug those numbers directly into this calculator.
Why include a failure-rate markup?
Not every print finishes successfully — a spaghetti failure or bed adhesion issue wastes filament and time. Building in a failure-rate percentage spreads that occasional loss across your successful prints so your pricing stays profitable on average.
Should I include electricity cost for personal prints?
For personal, non-commercial prints it's optional — the material cost alone is often what people care about. For anyone selling prints, including electricity (even at a modest wattage estimate) gives a more honest cost basis.
How we compare

For a full business pricing model, also factor in printer depreciation, labor, and post-processing time — this calculator covers material and electricity only.
