Removal works by colour matching, so it is at its best on flat, evenly lit backdrops. A busy or heavily shadowed background will not separate cleanly at any tolerance setting.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is opened directly in your browser and every pixel is processed on your own device. There is no server involved, so nothing is uploaded, stored, or logged — you can check with your browser network tab, or disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and it will still work.
What kind of images work best?
Anything on a flat, evenly lit backdrop — studio product shots, scanned logos and line art, screenshots, plain white or single-colour backgrounds. This tool separates the background by colour, so the more uniform the backdrop, the cleaner the cut.
Why is part of my subject disappearing?
Your subject contains a colour close to the background colour, and the tolerance is high enough to catch it. Lower the tolerance, and make sure "only remove background connected to the edges" is ticked — that keeps matching colours that sit inside the subject rather than around it.
Why is there still a fringe of background around the edges?
Anti-aliased edges are a blend of the subject and the backdrop, so those pixels are not quite the background colour. Nudge the tolerance up a little until the halo goes. If pushing it further starts eating the subject, that image has too soft an edge for colour-based removal.
Can it remove a busy or photographic background?
Not well. Colour matching needs a background that is roughly one colour, so a park, a street, or a patterned wall will not separate cleanly at any tolerance setting. For those, an AI cutout tool is the right choice — it just will not be a private, in-browser one.
Is the downloaded file really transparent?
Yes. It is a PNG with a genuine alpha channel, which is what the grey checkerboard in the preview represents. Drop it into a document, a design tool, or over a coloured background and the removed area stays see-through.
Is it free, and is there a size limit?
Free, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many images you process. The only cap is a 40 megapixel ceiling per image, which is there to stop a very large photo from exhausting your browser tab memory.
