How the Vocal Doubling Effect Tool works

- Start around 20 to 30 ms of offset with a small amount of detune; both together create the effect and either alone sounds artificial.

The method
Doubling works because two nearly identical signals with small timing and pitch differences read as two performances rather than one. The double layer is a delayed, detuned copy of your original file � not a re-recording � rendered offline and mixed with the dry signal.

That fusion threshold is why the timing offset matters more than any other parameter. The pitch offset is applied as a detune (in cents) on the double layer's playback � the same technique a hardware or plug-in doubler's detune control uses � which very slightly shortens that layer's effective duration over a long file; for a short vocal phrase or line this drift is inaudible.
FAQ
Why not just copy the track and delay it?
That is the basic version and it sounds mechanical, because a real double differs in pitch and timing continuously rather than by a fixed amount. Small pitch modulation is what makes it convincing.
Is an artificial double as good as a real one?
No, and the difference is audible on an exposed vocal. A real second take differs in phrasing, breath and vowel shape throughout. Artificial doubling is a good tool where re-recording is not an option.
Will it survive mono?
Check it with the "Preview summed to mono" toggle below the result. Wide doubling relies on differences between channels, which partly cancel when summed. A double that disappears in mono will vanish on a phone speaker.
How loud is the doubled layer relative to the original?
The doubled layer is mixed 6 dB below the original � audible enough to add width and thickness without it reading as two equally loud, slightly out-of-tune voices.
Can I download the result?
