Validity result
Passport expires 14 Feb 2027; return is 17 Nov 2026. Under a six-month rule you need validity to 17 May 2027 — this passport falls short by three months and needs renewing.
How the Travel Document Expiry Checker works
- Enter the passport expiry date and your travel dates.
- Select the rule your destination applies, and check it against an official source for that country.
- Renew early if it is close; passport processing times vary and a rejected boarding is not recoverable at the airport.
The method
Many countries require passport validity extending beyond the trip, most commonly six months from the date of entry — or in some cases from the date of departure.
required validity = entry date (or exit date) + rule period
Entering on 3 November under a six-month-from-entry rule requires validity to 3 May 2027; a passport expiring in February fails even though it is valid for the whole trip.
FAQ
Why do countries require six months of validity?
So that a traveller whose plans change or who is unable to leave still holds a valid document. It is a common but not universal requirement, and the period is measured from entry in some countries and from departure in others.
Are blank pages really required?
Many countries require one or two blank pages for entry stamps and visas, and will refuse entry without them. A passport with plenty of validity and no space can still be a problem.
Where should I check the actual rule?
The destination's own embassy or immigration authority, or your own government's travel advice for that country. Rules change, and airline staff apply them at check-in — which is the worst moment to discover one.
How we compare

Travel Document Expiry Checker applies the rule from the entry or exit date as the destination defines it — and defers to the official source, which is the one airlines enforce.
