How it works

It uses the Web Speech API's speech synthesis built into your browser — the same engine your operating system uses for its own accessibility features — so there's no audio file to generate, upload, or wait on.

Is my text sent anywhere?
No. It's spoken using your browser's built-in speech synthesis engine, running locally — nothing you type is uploaded or logged.
Why do the available voices depend on my device?
The voices come from your operating system and browser, not from us — there's no voice file to download. That means the list (and how natural the voices sound) varies between Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and even between browsers on the same device.
Why doesn't it start speaking automatically when the page loads?
Browsers require a click before a page can play audio unprompted, and a page that starts talking on its own the moment you open it is a bad experience anyway. The word count and estimated duration update live as you type — click Play when you're ready to hear it.
How accurate is the estimated duration?
It's a rough guide based on an average speaking pace of 150 words per minute, adjusted for your speed setting — actual timing varies by voice, punctuation, and content.
Is there a limit on how much text I can convert?
No hard limit is enforced here, but very long text may hit your browser's own speech engine limits or become unwieldy to listen to in one go. Breaking long text into shorter chunks generally sounds better.
