FAQ
Why does green tea steep for less time than black tea?
Green and white teas are less oxidized, so their delicate compounds turn bitter quickly at high heat and long steeps — 2-3 minutes at a lower temperature avoids that. Black and herbal teas tolerate boiling water and longer steeps without turning bitter.
Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?
Yes — it counts down using the browser's clock via setInterval, so it stays accurate even if the tab is in the background, and it will finish and show "steeping complete" whenever you check back.
Can I steep past the recommended time on purpose?
The preset is just a sensible starting point — once the countdown hits zero you can keep steeping if you prefer stronger tea; nothing stops brewing automatically. Switching tea types resets the timer to that tea's preset.
