How does this work without HTML or a font?
It uses a Unicode "combining character" — a special codepoint (U+0336 for strikethrough, U+0332 for underline) that attaches to the character right before it and draws a line through or under it. Since it's just text, it copies and pastes anywhere plain text is accepted.
Why does it sometimes look slightly off on some platforms?
Combining characters rely on the receiving app's text renderer to draw the line correctly for every character in a row — most modern apps handle this well, but a few older or more limited renderers can show gaps or uneven spacing.
Can I use this in a place that already supports real strikethrough, like Markdown?
