How the Secret Santa generator works
- List each participant's name, one per line.
- Optionally list pairs who shouldn't be matched to each other — one pair per line.
- Click Draw names — each participant gets a random, valid match, hidden until you tap to reveal it.
How a fair draw is guaranteed
The generator shuffles the group randomly, then checks that the result has no self-matches and respects every exclusion. If a shuffle fails that check, it tries again — repeating up to several hundred times, which is more than enough for typical group sizes to find a valid arrangement almost instantly.
FAQ
Does anyone get assigned to themselves?
No — the generator specifically rules out self-matches, along with any pair you've listed as excluded (like couples or siblings who shouldn't draw each other).
What if my exclusions make a valid draw impossible?
With too many exclusions relative to the group size, there may be no way to assign everyone without someone hitting a blocked pair — the tool tries many random attempts and tells you if it couldn't find a valid result, so you can loosen an exclusion or add participants.
Can everyone see the results on the same screen?
Yes, safely — each name is hidden by default and only reveals who they're giving to when you tap it, so one device can be passed around without spoiling anyone else's match.
Are the names or results saved anywhere?
No. The whole draw happens in your browser and resets if you reload the page — nothing is sent to Online Tool Store or stored.
