FAQ
What's the difference between round, ceiling, and floor?
Standard rounding goes to the nearest value (up or down, whichever is closer). Ceiling always rounds up, and floor always rounds down, regardless of how close the number is to either side.
What does "round to nearest multiple" do?
It rounds your number to the closest value that is a whole multiple of the number you choose - for example, rounding 47 to the nearest multiple of 5 gives 45.
How does rounding to negative decimal places work?
This tool only supports zero or positive decimal places for the "decimal places" mode. To round to the nearest ten or hundred, use "nearest multiple of" with 10 or 100 instead.
Why might I want ceiling or floor instead of standard rounding?
Ceiling is useful when you need to guarantee enough of something (like shipping boxes - always round up). Floor is useful when you need to guarantee you don't exceed a limit (like a budget).
