How the impact is calculated

  1. Monthly returns are estimated as units sold multiplied by your return rate.
  2. Unrecoverable returns (the share that can't be resold) lose their full margin; handling cost is applied to every return regardless of resellability.
  3. The total lost profit is compared against your monthly gross profit to show the percentage impact.

FAQ

What counts as a "lost" margin on a returned item?

Only the portion of returned units that can't be resold at full price — set by the "% of returned units resellable" field. Units that go back on the shelf as-is don't reduce your profit the same way a written-off unit does.

Does this include return shipping costs?

Return shipping and processing labor are grouped into the "handling cost per return" field — enter your own blended estimate for postage, inspection, and restocking labor per returned unit.

How can I use this to reduce return impact?

Try the numbers with a lower return rate (from better size guides or product photos) or a higher resellable percentage (from better quality control) to see which lever moves your lost-profit number more for your specific catalog.
