How to calculate a ranked list
- Enter each name or item followed by a comma and its score.
- Select the tie-ranking method and whether higher or lower values are better.
- Calculate the ordered table, review percentile context, and copy or download the result as CSV.
Ranking and percentile methods
Standard competition ranking assigns tied values the same position and leaves a gap afterward. Dense ranking removes that gap, sequential ranking gives every row a distinct position, and average ranking splits the tied positions evenly (two entries tied for 2nd and 3rd both become 2.5). Percentile context is calculated as favourable values ÷ total values × 100.

How should I enter scores?
Enter one item per line with a name, a comma, and a numeric score. Decimals and negative scores are supported.
How are tied standard ranks handled?
Tied scores receive the same rank and the next position is skipped, producing ranks such as 1, 2, 2, 4.
What is dense ranking?
Dense ranking gives tied scores the same position without skipping the next rank, producing 1, 2, 2, 3.
What is average ranking?
Average (fractional) ranking gives every tied entry the mean of the positions they would otherwise occupy — two entries tied for 2nd and 3rd both get 2.5. It is the convention used by Excel's RANK.AVG and by statistical tests like Spearman's rank correlation.
Can lower scores rank first?
Yes. Choose Lower is better for race times, error counts, costs, or any measure where a smaller number performs better.
How is percentile context calculated?
The displayed percentile is the percentage of entries at or below a score when higher is better, reversed when lower is better.
Can I export the ranked list?
Yes — Copy ranking places a plain-text list on your clipboard, and Download CSV saves the same rank, name, score, and percentile columns as a .csv file for a spreadsheet.
