How the Print Bleed & Margin Calculator works

FAQ
What is bleed and why does it matter?
Bleed is extra artwork extending past the trim line so that when the printer cuts the sheet, slight misalignment doesn't leave a thin white sliver at the edge. A standard 3mm bleed on each side is common for most commercial print jobs.
What is the safe margin for?
The safe margin (also called the "live area") is the zone just inside the trim line where important text or logos should never sit, since cutting tolerances can shift the trim by a millimeter or two.
Do I need bleed for digital-only designs?
No — bleed only matters when a physical cutter trims the final page. For screens or PDFs that are never physically cut, you can set bleed to 0 and use only the safe margin as a design guide.
