How it works

The formula
Aspect ratio = height ÷ width. Pinterest's sweet spot is roughly 1.4-1.6 (i.e. 2:3), with 1:2.1 as the maximum before cropping.

Why does Pinterest prefer vertical images?
Pinterest's feed is a vertical, scrolling grid — taller Pins take up more visible space per scroll and consistently get more engagement than square or landscape images.
What happens if my image is too tall?
Pinterest caps display height at roughly a 1:2.1 ratio and crops or truncates anything beyond that in the main feed, even though the full image is still viewable on the Pin's own page.
Can I use a square image?
