Phrasebook Generator

Generate useful phrases for travel, hospitality, directions, food, and emergencies in a compact phrasebook for quick reference.

This works right here on your device — nothing gets sent out.

Topics

A quick reference of common, formal-register phrases, not a certified translation. Wording varies by region.

How it works

  1. Choose the language you are travelling to: Spanish, French, German, or Italian.
  2. Tick the topics you need — greetings, getting around, food and drink, hotel, or emergencies — or search for a word.
  3. Read each phrase with its English meaning, press Listen to hear it spoken by your device, or Copy to paste it.
  4. Use Copy phrasebook or Download .txt to keep the whole list for offline use.

FAQ

Which languages and topics are included?

Spanish, French, German, and Italian, each with the same 30 phrases across five topics: greetings, getting around, food and drink, hotel, and emergencies.

Are these certified translations?

No. They are a quick reference of common, polite phrases in a formal register, kept short and unambiguous on purpose. Wording varies by country and region, so treat them as a starting point, and use a professional translator for anything legal, medical, or official.

How does the Listen button work?

It uses your browser's built-in text-to-speech, so the voice and accent depend on your device. If your browser or device has no voice for the language, the pronunciation may sound off, and the button is hidden when speech is not supported.

Why do some phrases show two forms, like vegetariano (vegetariana)?

These languages change some words depending on the speaker's gender. The first form is masculine and the form in brackets is feminine, so use the one that matches you.

Can I keep the phrasebook offline?

Yes. Use Copy phrasebook or Download .txt to save the phrases you have selected as plain text, then keep the file on your phone or print it.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The phrases are built into the page and everything runs in your browser.
