How the overtime pay calculator works

  1. Enter your regular hourly rate and the total hours worked this week.
  2. Enter the regular-hours threshold (commonly 40) and choose the overtime multiplier that applies to you.
  3. The calculator splits your hours into regular and overtime portions and shows the pay for each, plus the total.

The formula

total pay = (regular hours × rate) + (overtime hours × rate × multiplier)

Example: 48 hours worked at $22/hour with a 40-hour threshold and a 1.5× multiplier gives 40 × $22 = $880 in regular pay, plus 8 × $33 = $264 in overtime pay, for a total of $1,144.

FAQ

Is 40 hours always the overtime threshold?

It's the most common threshold in the US under federal law, but not universal — some states, countries, and union contracts use a different threshold, or calculate overtime daily rather than weekly. Adjust the "Regular hours threshold" field to match your actual situation.

What's the difference between 1.5× and 2× overtime?

1.5× ("time and a half") is the most common overtime rate. Some employers, jurisdictions, or hour brackets (like hours worked on a holiday, or a second overtime tier) use 2× ("double time") instead — check your employment agreement or local labor law for which applies.

Does this account for taxes?

No — this shows gross pay before taxes and other deductions. Your actual take-home amount will be lower after withholding.

Is my pay information sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation happens instantly in your browser as you type — nothing is sent to Online Tool Store or any other server.
