How it works
- Paste one full name per line, or upload a .txt/.csv file, and select the input order.
- Optional title and suffix dictionaries remove recognized edge tokens.
- The first remaining token becomes First, and the last token — plus any attached surname particle such as van or de — becomes Last, with anything left over as Middle.
- Review the table, then copy TSV or download CSV.
Why review matters
Names are not a universal fixed formula. This deterministic method is useful for clean Western-style lists, but compound surnames, patronymics, mononyms, and other naming traditions require human context.
FAQ
How does it handle a single-word name?
A single word is kept in the First column and the remaining columns stay empty, avoiding a guess about family-name conventions.
Can it parse “Last, First” lists?
Yes. Select the Last, First Middle input order before pasting comma-separated names.
Are surname particles such as van, de, or von recognized?
Yes, for common particles (van, von, de, del, della, di, du, la, le, bin, ibn, al, ter, ten, af, zu) the tool keeps them attached to the surname, e.g. “van Beethoven” instead of splitting them into the Middle column. Toggle it off to review those rows manually instead.
Can I upload a file instead of pasting names?
Yes. Use the Upload button to load a .txt file or a single-column .csv with one name per line. Multi-column spreadsheet exports should be trimmed to a single name column first.
Are names uploaded or stored?
No. Parsing, file reading, and CSV creation all happen locally in your browser, and the list disappears when the page is closed or refreshed.
