How it works
- Set a tempo from 30 to 240 BPM, or tap along with a song to measure its tempo.
- Choose a quarter-note time signature or 6/8, then decide whether beat one should be accented.
- Press Start. The visual pulse marks every beat while a higher click identifies the start of each measure.
From BPM to a steady pulse
BPM states how many beats occur in one minute. The delay between clicks is therefore 60 divided by the BPM. At the sample tempo of 120 BPM, each beat is 0.5 seconds apart. In 6/8, each of the six eighth notes receives a click.

For steadier playback, the tool plans each click a fraction of a second ahead on the browser's audio clock. The timer only asks which notes need scheduling; it does not decide the exact instant each note sounds.
FAQ
How does tap tempo calculate the BPM?
Tap at least twice in time with the music. The metronome averages the intervals between your last eight taps and converts that average from milliseconds into beats per minute. Pause for two seconds to begin a fresh reading.
How accurate is this browser metronome?
It schedules clicks slightly ahead on the Web Audio clock instead of relying on a timer for each sound. That keeps the pulse stable during normal use, although Bluetooth devices and some operating-system audio settings can add audible output latency.
Will it keep playing in a background tab?
Usually yes, as long as the tab remains open and the device stays awake. A browser or operating system may still suspend audio when it enters a power-saving state, so keep the device awake for an uninterrupted practice session.
What tempos and time signatures can I use?
Choose any whole-number tempo from 30 to 240 BPM, quarter-note meters from 2/4 through 12/4, or a six-eighth-note 6/8 pulse. You can also turn the first-beat accent off for an even click.
Does the metronome record or upload my audio?
No. It never accesses your microphone. The clicks are synthesized locally with the browser Web Audio API, and your tempo settings stay on your device.
