How Drum Notation Sheet Generator works
- Tap any cell in the step grid to toggle a hit for that instrument on that 16th-note step.
- The grid is grouped visually into four beats of four steps each, matching one bar of 4/4 time.
- Below the grid, an SVG staff redraws instantly to reflect your pattern — hi-hat hits as ×, snare hits as an open circle, and kick hits as a filled circle, positioned on their own staff line.

FAQ
What does the sample pattern represent?
It's pre-loaded with a standard rock beat: kick drum on beats 1 and 3, snare on beats 2 and 4 (the classic backbeat), and hi-hat on every 8th note — one of the most common patterns in popular music, so it's a recognizable starting point.
What do the ×, ○, and ● symbols mean?
This follows simplified drum-notation convention: an × marks a hi-hat (or cymbal) hit, an open circle ○ marks a snare hit, and a filled circle ● marks a kick/bass drum hit — the same three symbol shapes used to distinguish instruments on a real drum staff, without needing full standard music notation.
Why 16 steps?
Sixteen steps represents one bar of 4/4 time subdivided into 16th notes — four steps per beat, four beats per bar — which is fine-grained enough to place most common rock, pop, and hip-hop patterns exactly where they belong.
