FAQ
What is the debt avalanche method?
Pay minimums on every debt, then put all extra money toward the debt with the highest interest rate first. Once it's paid off, roll that payment into the next-highest-rate debt, and so on — mathematically minimizes total interest paid compared to any other payoff order.
How is this different from the debt snowball method?
Snowball targets the smallest balance first regardless of interest rate, for a psychological "quick win." Avalanche targets the highest interest rate first, which saves the most money over time — this tool implements avalanche specifically.
What does "extra monthly payment" do in the calculation?
Any amount beyond the minimum payments, applied entirely to the current highest-interest debt each month — the core mechanism that speeds up payoff and reduces total interest versus paying only minimums.
Is my financial data uploaded anywhere?
