How the Dead Pixel Test works
- Clean the screen first so dust is not mistaken for a defect.
- Run the colour sequence full screen in a dimly lit room.
- Note the position of any dot that stays the wrong colour on every background.
FAQ
What is the difference between a dead and a stuck pixel?
A stuck pixel is permanently lit in one colour and shows up against a black screen. A dead pixel never lights at all and shows up as black against white. Stuck pixels sometimes recover; dead ones do not.
Can a stuck pixel be fixed?
Sometimes, by rapidly cycling colours over that area for several minutes, or with gentle pressure while the screen redraws. Neither is guaranteed, and pressure risks worse damage.
How many faults does a warranty allow?
Manufacturers publish a defect threshold — often several sub-pixels before a panel qualifies for replacement. Check your model's policy, and test early while the window is open.
