How to convert electrical current units

  1. Enter the electrical current measurement.
  2. Select the unit currently used by the measurement.
  3. Read the equivalent in nanoamperes, microamperes, milliamperes, amperes, and kiloamperes.

The conversion method

Each input is converted to amperes using its SI prefix factor, then divided by the target unit factor. Nano means 10-9, micro means 10-6, milli means 10-3, and kilo means 103.

target value = input value x source factor / target factor

For example, 1 ampere divided by the milliampere factor 0.001 equals 1,000 milliamperes.

FAQ

How many milliamperes are in one ampere?

One ampere equals 1,000 milliamperes. Multiply amperes by 1,000 to convert to milliamperes.

How many microamperes are in one milliampere?

One milliampere equals 1,000 microamperes. The milli prefix represents 10^-3 and micro represents 10^-6.

What is a nanoampere?

A nanoampere is one-billionth of an ampere. One ampere equals 1,000,000,000 nanoamperes.

Is electrical current the same as electric charge?

No. Current measures the rate of charge flow in amperes. Charge is measured in coulombs or units such as ampere-hours.

Are my conversion values stored?

No. The conversion is performed immediately in the current browser tab, and entered values are not uploaded or saved.
