The method
Contrast ratios are calculated between each color pair using the WCAG relative luminance formula, then checked against the AA and AAA thresholds for normal and large text.
FAQ
What contrast ratio do I need for WCAG AA?
Normal text needs at least 4.5:1, and large text (18pt+ or 14pt+ bold) needs at least 3:1 to meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements.
What about AAA?
AAA is stricter — 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text — recommended for content where accessibility is a priority beyond the legal minimum.
Does this check every possible color pairing in my palette?
It checks each pair you provide — for a full palette, check every foreground/background combination you actually use in your design.
