How to split left and right audio
- Choose an audio file that contains two stereo channels - most formats your browser can decode (WAV, MP3, M4A/AAC, OGG, and more) will work.
- Optionally normalize each channel, then select Split channels.
- Compare the waveform and dBFS meter for each channel, then preview and download the independent left and right mono WAV files.
Channel extraction method
The browser decodes the interleaved source into channel sample arrays. Channel 1 and channel 2 are then encoded separately as 16-bit PCM mono WAV files at the decoded sample rate. This is channel separation, not AI stem separation: content mixed into both sides remains in both exports.
FAQ
What does splitting stereo channels do?
It takes channel 1 (left) and channel 2 (right) from an interleaved stereo file and writes each as an independent mono WAV file.
Will centered audio disappear?
No. Sounds panned to the centre are normally present in both channels, so each mono export retains that shared material.
What does normalize each output mean?
Each channel is scaled independently so its highest sample reaches −1 dBFS. This can make channel levels more similar but changes their original level relationship.
What happens if the source is mono?
The tool reports that there is only one channel and does not create two duplicate exports.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. Web Audio decodes the file locally and the WAV encoder writes both outputs in your browser.
What audio formats can I upload?
Whatever your browser can decode — WAV, MP3, M4A/AAC, and OGG all work in current Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Exact codec support varies slightly by browser, since decoding is handled by the browser itself rather than this tool.
