How the Braille translator works

FAQ
Is this Grade 1 or Grade 2 Braille?
Grade 1 (uncontracted) Braille — every letter and number gets its own cell, with no multi-letter contractions. Grade 2 Braille uses shorthand contractions for common letter combinations and whole words, which this tool doesn't implement.
Why do numbers show an extra symbol before them?
Braille reuses the same cells for letters a-j and digits 1-9 and 0 — a special "number sign" cell placed before a run of digits tells the reader those following cells are numbers, not letters.
Why do some capital letters show an extra symbol?
Braille also reuses lowercase letter cells for capitals — a "capital sign" placed before a letter indicates it should be read as uppercase.
Can I use the Braille output with a refreshable Braille display?
These are genuine Unicode Braille pattern characters (from the U+2800 block), so many Braille displays and screen readers can render or interpret them — though a display built specifically for Grade 2 contracted Braille may present Grade 1 text differently than expected.
